Coach Doug McGown
Coach Doug McGown has coached volleyball for 20 years on different stages. He has coached in USAV, Texas UIL, and Texas TAPPS competitions. His USAV clubs include: Sudden Impact Jrs., Houston Jrs., Texas Beach Club, NASA Jrs., and Texas Tornados. In UIL, McGown coached with Friendswood High School, and in TAPPS, Northland Christian.
At Friendswood, McGown coached 10 years. He took a struggling program and developed it into one of the top perennial powerhouse programs in the state with state rankings of 9 consecutive years and a Texas State AAAA Championship in 1994. At Friendswood, McGown was influential in developing (3) Fab 50 players, (7) 1st Team All-State players, (7) 1st Team All Greater Houston Area players, (63) 1st Team All-District players, and (9) Players of the Year.
In USAV, McGown was instrumental in helping establish NASA Jrs, With NASA, McGown consulted, coached, and served as a training coach. With Texas Tornados, McGown helped launch the 17-18 yr. old programs, and made a small stint with 16 year olds. With Texas Beach Club, Houston Jrs., and Impact Jrs., McGown coached 15 and 16 yr olds. Overall, McGown has coached 17 qualifying teams and has been active in helping his players reach their aspirations.
At Northland Christian, McGown trained a group of beginners and led them to the State Championship finals in Waco, TX..
On the professional side, Coach McGown is a USA CAP Level II coach. He has served as a Texas High School All-Star coach, and been given numerous Coach of the Year awards including All-Greater Houston, Bay Area, and Galveston County. McGown is Impact certified, a camp clinician, and has served as a columnist for Bay Area News and has published articles for Volleyball Monthly.
Coach McGown grew up in Houston, TX going to Dick Dowling Jr. High, Madison High School, and graduated from Clear Creek High. At college, McGown graduated from Texas A&M with a BS in Education with minors in Physical Science, Health Ed. And Physical Ed. Coach McGown was in the Corps of Cadets and was the keeper of Reveille IV. McGown also holds a foreign language degree from Bangkok, Thailand in the Thai language. Coach McGown has traveled extensively in SE Asia spending many years helping missionaries and studying Asian cultures. Currently, Coach McGown works for Spring ISD in administration as the district Web Specialist. Coach McGown is also the co-founder and CEO of the Doogie Co, LLC., and founder of USA Kids Eat Free, LLC.
Coach McGown is married to Amber and they have 3 daughters – Aubrielle (10), Elleanna (8) and Noelle (4). They live in The Woodlands and home school the girls. Amber has her own home business as an Executive Director II with Melaleuca, Inc.
