Coach Christen Zelaya
Christen Zelaya is a native Houstonian with 15 years of competitive volleyball experience. She graduated Cy-Fair HS in 1990 where she received all- district and state honors including a state championship. She was awarded a full scholarship to play at Texas Tech University where she was a starting outside hitter. Christen competed all four years in the NCAA 1 playoff tournaments and received awards including ALL Southwest Conference Player, Rookie of the Year, and holds the records for most kills in a match, career aces, and career kills. Christen has three years of prior coaching experience with Lubbock Juniors and volleyball camps through Texas Tech. In addition, she has coached the Xtreme 11 Purple for one year.
After obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Marketing and a Master's degree in Communications, Christen worked several years for PricewaterhouseCoopers as a recruiting manager and later as an Adjunct Professor for the College of the Mainland teaching communications. Christen and her husband, Rodrigo, have two daughters ages 7 and 9 and live in Spring.
